Washing Machines

1. Enter the litres per kilogram of dry load into column (a) and the quantity of washing machines into column (b). Litres per kilogram of dry load can be derived from the figure quoted on the EU Energy Label.

2. Where washing machines with varying litres per kilogram of dry load are specified, use a separate row to input the litres per kilogram of dry load (a) and quantity (b) of each design specification.

4. Click ‘Calculate’ to calculate the average litres per kilogram of dry load and the weighted average litres per kilogram of dry load. The larger of these 2 values will be carried forward to the ‘Water Calculator’.

Notes:

The weighted average litres per kilogram of dry load is calculated as:

= Maximum litres per kilogram of dry load (litres) x 0.7

Where the average litres per kilogram of dry load is lower than the weighted average litres per kilogram of dry load, the weighted average is entered into the ‘Water Calculator’. This is so that where the average litres per kilogram of dry load is significantly lower than the maximum litres per kilogram of dry load specified, the calculation limits the litres per kilogram of dry load that can be assumed.]

Where no washing machine is to be provided and, therefore, consumption figures are unknown, a figure of 8.17 litres per kilogram is assumed.
